Weeding

Weeds are everywhere and are part of the urban landscape. Unless you are in certain neighborhoods in Germany, where road side and paths are kept pristine and cauterized and obsessively weed free.

Weeding is the removal of any undesirable or troublesome plant growing in the wrong location. It doesn’t matter if a plant is regarded as beautiful, or noxious, if it is growing profusely where it is not wanted, it is regarded as a weed.

Alongside digging, planting and mowing, weeding is a necessary part of gardening.

There is an old saying “one year's seeding, seven years' weeding.”

Keep a bucket and gardening gloves handy.

Pull the entire weed out, not just the top and what can be seen on the surface, or it will regenerate.

Weed when the soil is moist as it is easier to pull out the roots.

I weed as a performance act to highlight our perception of the environment.

Places I’ve weeded include Avon, CT; San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; Haarlem, Holland; Stowe, Vermont; Gran Canaria, Canary Isles, Spain
